2. Who is the head instructor at GTK Academy?

The head instructor is Godfrey Knowles, Jr a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu (under Reylson Gracie), Traditional Japanese Jujitsu, and Judo. Godfrey won both gold and silver medals at the WKA Submission Grappling Nationals and silver at the Grapping Classic BJJ.
His unique combination of expertise gives him a deep understanding of both modern and traditional grappling arts, allowing students to learn effective techniques with authentic lineage and precision.

Yes! We have separate kids’ and adult Jiu-Jitsu programs tailored to each group’s goals.

6. Do I need to be in shape before starting Jiu-Jitsu?

Not at all! Our training builds your fitness gradually. Many students begin with no prior experience or conditioning—Jiu-Jitsu naturally develops strength, flexibility, and endurance over time.

If you don’t have a Gi (uniform) yet, wear comfortable athletic clothing (like a t-shirt and shorts with no zippers). Once you join, our staff will help you find the right uniform for your training level.

Promotions in BJJ are based on technical skill, dedication, mat time, and character. The process is earned—not given—and recognized through belt ceremonies that celebrate your progress and commitment.
